๐ "Buen Camino" June 5 โ 29 in LA
Please join me for an updated version of my 1-hour show at Hollywood Fringe Festival next month.
What a difference six months makes! Since performing Buen Camino for the first time on December 23, 2024 at the Zephyr Theatre in LA, my show has been through two significant rewrites.
The first rewrite was to get it from a 90-minute show to a 60-minute show with the aim of testing that out at United Solo in New York City in March. That show ended up being 72-minutes, so I still had nearly 15 minutes to cut. Iโm aiming for a 60-minute show because that is the absolute limit for whatโs allowable at the Edinburgh Fringe in Scotland where I will be performing for the month of August.
But what Iโm really aiming for is a show that hews to the heart of my experience walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain, an experience that altered my life. When I was performing the revised show at United Solo, I realized that there was a deeper story I had to tellโone that went straight to the unvarnished truth about what I was carrying with me on the Camino and what I had to give up in order to find freedom and purpose.
I went back to my scenes about my early life and about what I confronted on those rainy days of walking. I took away any varnish, any skirting, any cleaning up around the edges, and let the story get a little more raggedy, considerably more true, and much scarier to perform.
So what youโll see when I perform in LA at the Hollywood Fringe Festival in June 2025 is in many ways a new show. I hope you are able to come see it againโand for the first time. And I welcome your feedback. I expect there will be another rewrite before Edinburgh. The juice in storytelling is always in the editing!
